ReviewPro is a Google Docs sidebar that uses AI to review your contracts. You select a playbook, ReviewPro analyzes your document, and you get structured insights with proposed changes. You can then generate a redlined copy of your document with those changes shown as Google Docs suggestions.
This User Guide guide covers everything you need to know as a contract reviewer.
Quick Start
Get from an open contract to a redlined document in five steps.
1. Open the Sidebar
In your Google Doc, go to Extensions > ReviewPro > Open ReviewPro. The ReviewPro sidebar appears on the right side of your document.
2. Sign In
Click Sign In. A login window opens — enter your LegalSifter credentials and complete authentication. The window closes automatically and the sidebar loads your account.
If the login window doesn’t appear, your browser may be blocking popups. Allow popups for docs.google.com and try again.
3. Choose a Playbook
The Playbooks tab shows your available playbooks. Use the search bar to filter by name if needed. Find the playbook you want and click Redline.
4. Review the Results
ReviewPro analyzes your document. You’ll see progress stages as the analysis runs (typically 30–60 seconds). When complete, the sidebar automatically switches to the Redlines tab showing your results:
• Provisions group related findings together (click to expand/collapse)
• Positions show specific clauses to evaluate, with importance levels (High, Medium, Low)
• Action cards show individual findings — click one to jump to that location in your document
5. Create Your Redlined Document
After reviewing the insights, click Create Redlined Document. ReviewPro generates a new copy of your document with all proposed changes shown as Google Docs suggestions. The new document opens in a new tab.
Detailed Guide
1. Getting Started
Opening the Sidebar
The ReviewPro sidebar is available from the Google Docs menu:
Extensions > ReviewPro > Open ReviewPro
The sidebar opens on the right side of your document. If you’ve used ReviewPro before on this document, it may restore your previous review session automatically.
Signing In
When the sidebar opens, you’ll see a sign-in prompt: “Sign in to review your contract with ReviewPro.”
1. Click Sign In.
2. A login window opens. Enter your email and password.
3. After successful authentication, the window closes and the sidebar loads.
You’ll need to sign in each time you open the sidebar. This is a security measure to protect your account.
Sidebar Layout
After signing in, the sidebar has three tabs at the bottom:
Tab | Purpose |
Redlines | View analysis results and insights for your document |
Playbooks | Browse and select playbooks to start a review |
Profile | View your account info, credits, settings, and sign out |
The active tab is highlighted with an orange indicator.
2. Selecting a Playbook
The Playbooks tab is where you choose which playbook to use for reviewing your document.
Browsing Playbooks
Each playbook card shows:
• Name — the playbook title
• Description — a summary of what the playbook covers
• Redline button — click to start the review
Some playbooks may show an Inactive badge in red, indicating they are not currently available for use.
Searching
Use the Search playbooks... bar at the top to filter playbooks by name. The list updates as you type.
Starting a Review
Once you’ve found the right playbook, click the Redline button on its card. This begins the analysis of your document.
If you see a “View Only” message instead of the Redline button, your account has read-only access. Contact your admin to get reviewer access.
3. Reviewing Your Document
Analysis Progress
After clicking Redline, the sidebar shows the analysis progress with animated stages. Each stage moves through three states:
• Gray circle — waiting to start
• Blue spinner — in progress
• Green checkmark — complete
The analysis typically takes 30–60 seconds. Stay on the page while it runs — you can continue working in your document during this time.
When Analysis Completes
Once the analysis finishes, the sidebar automatically switches to the Redlines tab and displays your results. You’ll see a message confirming the analysis is complete, along with a button to create your redlined document.
If the analysis takes longer than expected, you’ll see an error message with a Retry option.
5. Creating a Redlined Document
Once the analysis finishes, you will see an option to create a new Google document with the redlines (suggestions) based on the analysis.
Generating the Redlined Document
• Click Create Redlined Document. The button shows “Creating...” while the document is being prepared.
• When ready, the new document opens automatically in a new browser tab.
• The sidebar shows an Open Redlined Document link so you can return to it later.
What to Expect in the Redlined Document
The new document is a copy of your original with ReviewPro’s proposed changes shown as Google Docs suggestions:
• Proposed deletions appear as suggestion strikethroughs
• Proposed insertions appear as suggestion additions
You can accept or reject each suggestion individually using Google Docs’ built-in suggestion tools, just like any other Google Docs suggestion.
Navigating the Redlined Document
When you open the redlined document, you can reactivate the ReviewPro sidebar, which will automatically load the analysis results for that document. You can click action cards to navigate to specific clauses, just like in the original document.
4. Working with Insights
The Redlines tab presents your analysis results in a structured hierarchy.
Understanding the Results Structure
Results are organized in three levels:
• Provisions — top-level groupings of related contract topics (collapsible sections)
• Positions — specific clauses or concepts within a provision, each with an importance level
• Action Cards — individual findings with proposed changes
Provisions
Each provision is a collapsible section. Click the provision header to expand or collapse it. The footer of each provision shows a summary count of the actions it contains.
Use the Expand All and Collapse All buttons at the top to toggle all provisions at once.
Positions and Importance
Within each provision, positions represent specific contract clauses to evaluate. Each position shows:
• Position name
• Importance badge — color-coded by priority:
– High (red) — critical items requiring attention
– Medium (orange) — important but less urgent
– Low (blue) — informational or minor items
• Guidance (optional) — click to expand helpful context about this position
Action Cards
Action cards are the individual findings from the analysis. Each card shows the name of the finding.
Clicking an action card does two things:
• Navigates your cursor to the relevant location in the document (highlighted briefly in yellow)
• Expands the card to show proposed changes
Proposed Changes
When an action card is expanded, you’ll see the suggested changes:
• Remove: — text shown in strikethrough that ReviewPro suggests deleting
• Add: — text shown in green that ReviewPro suggests inserting
• Modified: — if you’ve previously edited the proposed text, the modified version appears here
Not all action cards have proposed text changes. Some are alerts that flag whether a provision is missing from or present in your contract.
6. Your Profile & Settings
The Profile tab shows your account information and add-on settings.
Account Information
• Name and Email — your LegalSifter account details
• Credit Balances — your available Sift Credits and Document Credits
Settings
Setting | Options | Description |
Theme | Light, System, Dark | Controls the sidebar’s appearance. “System” follows your device’s theme setting. |
Signing Out
• Click Sign Out on the Profile tab.
• A confirmation dialog asks “Are you sure you want to sign out?”
• Click Sign Out to confirm, or Cancel to stay signed in.
After signing out, you’ll return to the sign-in screen.
7. Getting Help & Troubleshooting
Support Chat
ReviewPro includes built-in support chat powered by Intercom. Look for the chat option in the sidebar to start a conversation with the support team.
Common Issues
Login window doesn’t appear
Your browser is likely blocking popups. Allow popups for docs.google.com in your browser settings, then try signing in again.
Session expired
If your session expires while you’re working, the sidebar shows a “Your session has expired” message with a Sign In Again button. Click it to re-authenticate — your review progress is preserved, so you won’t lose your place.
Analysis takes too long or fails
If the analysis exceeds the expected time, you’ll see an error with a Retry button. Click it to try again. If the problem persists, check your internet connection or contact support.
“No connection” error
This appears when the sidebar can’t reach the server. Check your internet connection and click Retry. The message reads: “Unable to reach the server. Check your internet connection and try again.”
“Something went wrong” error
If the sidebar encounters an unexpected error, you’ll see a Try Again button. Click it to reload. If the issue persists, try closing and reopening the sidebar from the Extensions menu.
Redlined document doesn’t open
If the new tab doesn’t open after clicking “Create Redlined Document,” your browser may be blocking the popup. Allow popups for docs.google.com and click the Open Redlined Document link that appears in the sidebar.
